Co-parenting consultation supports individuals navigating the complexities of raising children together after a separation or divorce. This process aims to minimize the potential negative impact of separation on the children and build a cooperative partnership focused on their well-being. The counsellor assesses the situation, provides recommendations, and may assist in implementing solutions. The approach is collaborative, with a focus on achieving specific outcomes.

The process begins with an initial consultation involving the primary caregivers, where the counsellor introduces the co-parenting consultation process, sets expectations, and establishes shared goals. This is followed by an assessment session where all relevant caregivers, including partners of the parents, are involved. During this session, the counsellor assesses family dynamics, roles, and communication patterns while also considering the roles of additional caregivers. Depending on the children's ages, the counsellor may conduct a child-focused assessment at home or in the office based on what the caregivers believe is the most comfortable environment for the children. This assessment helps the counsellors understand the children's needs, perspectives, and emotional well-being, which is crucial in shaping the co-parenting plan.

Following these assessments, the counsellor guides the primary caregivers through a strategic planning session focused on parenting strategies, conflict resolution techniques, and effective communication methods. The outcome of this session is a draft of the co-parenting plan that outlines shared responsibilities, parenting time, and decision-making processes. Once the plan is drafted, the counsellor facilitates a review and implementation session with all relevant caregivers to finalize and prepare for its implementation. A follow-up session is typically scheduled a few weeks later to review the plan's effectiveness and make necessary adjustments, ensuring the co-parenting relationship remains strong and focused on the children's well-being.

This structured yet flexible approach ensures that the co-parenting consultation process is comprehensive and focused on creating a supportive environment for the children while fostering collaboration and communication among all caregivers.

What is EMDR?

Disturbing experiences can sometimes get stored in our memories in a way that keeps us from moving on. You might say that the experience gets stuck. As this old experience gets triggered, we may experience anxiety, depression, nightmares, hypervigilance, relationship difficulties, and more.

The process of EMDR allows these old memories to process or metabolize, allowing new
information to emerge and resolve these old experiences. In EMDR we use Bilateral Stimulation (BLS), to unlock the nervous system and allow your brain to process the stuck experience. Examples of BLS include eye movements, tapping, audio, and tactile buzzers.

You are always the one in control, and it is your body and nervous system that allows the healing to happen.

What to expect
In this EMDR initial consult, Brittany will explain the EMDR process, explore your goals, and assess your readiness for EMDR reprocessing. You will decide together when is the right time to book an EMDR session that includes BLS.

EMDR Reprocessing Session

What to expect
Once you and Brittany have decided to move into the Reprocessing phase of EMDR, Bilateral Stimulation (BLS) will be introduced. You may experience images, emotions, and body sensations during EMDR therapy. Sometimes these can feel intense. They often pass like a wave. However, we can stop at any time if needed. You might experience vivid dreams or feel emotions or sensations still processing in the few days after an EMDR session. This is normal. In the EMDR Initial Consult, you will have reviewed coping and self-regulation techniques so that you are prepared to navigate these emotions, sensations, and insights.

Remember: You are always the one in control and it is your body and nervous system that allows the healing to happen.

Sometimes reprocessing takes 1-2 sessions and other times it can take longer. If you are able, prepare to have multiple sessions in order to allow your nervous system the time it needs to reprocess.

Workshops

Hello! My name is Amber and I’m a registered social worker. I also hold a master’s degree in counselling. I offer individual (ages 18+), couples and family counselling. My primary goal is to create a safe and judgement-free environment where you can take a deep breath, relax and just be yourself. I practice from a client-centered perspective and my focus is on working in partnership with clients. I also practice from a trauma-informed lens, assuming that we have all experienced trauma at some point in our lives. Some of the counselling theories and modalities I am drawn to are Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Experiencing and Attachment Theory. My areas of interest are anxiety, anger, trauma, exposure therapy, emotional regulation, and unhealthy relationships with self and others. I firmly believe that success in counselling is connected to having a kind, compassionate, accepting, and empathetic counsellor that you feel safe and comfortable with. I believe this is one of my personal strengths as a counsellor and something I continually strive to provide for my clients.

Hi, I’m Stacy Wallace- a local Saskatoonian who has spent her whole life in this beautiful city. I love pop culture, especially Disney, Harry Potter and Adventure Time. I am a human mom and a dog mom and can’t help but laugh at the chaos of both experiences equally.

I graduated from the University of Regina with a Bachelor of Social Work in 2011. I have a passion for learning and have continued to pursue a variety of training and certificate programs, with the most recent academic adventure pursing my Master of Social Work with the University of Regina.

I primarily work with adults (18+). I have worked with older adults, adults experiencing mental health, and adults who have lived experience with incarceration for the majority of my career. I have a passion for animals and have done a lot of learning on the human animal bond, pet loss grief, and how to incorporate animals into our healing journey.

I have trained as an End of Life Doula, am a Certified Laughter Leader through World Laughter Tour, harness the power in neuro-art and enjoy supporting clients as they navigate through the many different transitions that life can bring. I strive to support people holistically, understanding the connection between the mind and the body, aiming to create a collaborative and empowering environment that acknowledges the impact that your past experiences have on your present life. I would describe my style as casual, compassionate and curious.

I recognize that each individual is unique and there is no one single best path forward. I blend a variety of knowledge and skill sets to create a tailored therapeutic approach that is unique to you, and your story. This allows us to remain open to a variety of pathways to healing.

Lindy Alexander once said, “ It is a privilege to bear witness to someone’s story, especially when they may not have had the opportunity to tell it before”. I practice from a place that honours the story of my clients and recognizes the strength in their journey. I feel grateful to be able to walk alongside them and witness their lives as their story unfolds.

Whatever your reason for reaching out, it’s the right reason and it’s enough. We aren’t meant to hold these stories alone. Sometimes we just need someone to listen and bear witness to our lives. Are you ready to tell your story?

I invite you to book a free consultation to allow us to get to know one another and see if we connect.

I am a Father of 2 grown children who have flown the nest and a 4 legged dog-child named “Rumi” who is still hanging around. I have lived experience and a formal education from the University of Regina in Social Work. In my practice, I observe the idea that there is not a one size fits all solution for people so I have a blended approach that includes all of my formal and informal teachings. I provide a Trauma informed, safe environment and draw from Reality, Narrative and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies to support people to work through their problematic issues from substance use/misuse, Social Media and anxiety and stress. Human development happens over a lifetime so I work with a wide age range of individuals from adolescents to adults and experienced adults because all life stages are new to all of us at one point and sometimes we are in need of support and information to adapt to these times. A journey of healing can be facilitated by acceptance of ourselves and release of inherited family behaviors, cultural effects and adaptive responses that are no longer working for us. I would be happy to come alongside our journey to help form a new healthy lifestyle to adapt to your evolving life.

My name is Adelle and I grew up in small town Saskatchewan as part of a large extended family. In that big family I learned how to appreciate and interact with lots of different people. That love of people and a desire to help others lead me to becoming a foster parent in 1993. The work I did with foster children inspired me to become more involved. I then enrolled at the University of Regina graduating with a degree in Social Work in 1999. I worked with youth in a facility that had a farm program which lead me to taking EGALA training where I was first exposed to the basics of therapy. This model incorporates a mental health professional and a qualified equine specialist that work together with a horse and a client in a process that was fun, interesting and helped many of the youth we worked with to understand their lives better. As I developed my ability to ask questions and to understand and motivate others it increased my desire to become better at therapy. I enrolled in a Masters program at Dalhousie University in Halifax Nova Scotia. There I completed a field study at Windsor Hospital where I worked on a therapy team that included Psychiatrists, Mental Health Nurses and MSW therapists. I graduated with my Masters in Social Work in 2016. This level of education increased my ability as a therapist and has meant that I have had the opportunity to teach classes as a sessional at the University level along with being selected as lead member of a team that developed recommendations to improve a program that works directly with many youth in the province of Saskatchewan.

I have been involved in private practice since 2018 and continue to do this work because it teaches me how to be a better person and how to help others more effectively. Being part of peoples healing feels like and honor and a privilege. At its best, therapy converts suffering into wisdom. A great session requires both you and I to show up with a willingness to hear one another and commit to understanding what you need to be the best version of yourself. My client base has a broad range; though I began focusing on youth, many of my long-term clients tend to be adults coming for individual therapy. If you are interested in working together you are welcome to meet in in a free video consult to see if it feels like a good fit.

Hi there! My name is Emily (she/her) and I am a Métis Social Worker (BSW, RSW).

My main areas of focus are: academic stress, anxiety, body image/self esteem, depression, exploring identity (2SLGBTQIA+, career/job, culture), impacts of involvement with the child welfare system, navigating mental health diagnosis (anxiety, depression, ADHD, etc.), strained relationships with parent/caregiver figures, and surviving sexual violence. I am currently working with children, youth, and young adults. If your age grouping or topic of interest isn’t listed here, don’t fret. Feel free to book in with me if you would like to - we can discuss your needs and you can decide how you’d like to proceed!

With 10 years of experience in the human services field, I’ve supported many populations including elderly, individuals with varying abilities/disabilities, newcomers to Canada, people who use substances, and others. My time within non-profit, healthcare, and Indigenous government environments have allowed me the privilege to connect with and learn from folks of diverse backgrounds and circumstances. These experiences have informed a number of modalities that I integrate into my work. I approach counselling from strengths-based, person-centred, harm-reduction, and anti-oppressive lenses. I also draw upon knowledge gained through my lived experiences. I am dedicated to furthering my education and building my knowledge base.

Above all, I believe that you are the expert of your own story. I strive to provide an open, supportive, and confidential environment that fosters healing and growth. I will hold space for you with authenticity and curiosity guiding our conversations. I look forward to connecting with you!

In my free time, you can find me enjoying the outdoors, trying new recipes, or listening to a podcast/music!

I grew up in small town Saskatchewan and moved to Saskatoon to complete my Bachelor of Social Work. I spent a decade working in the health sector and have been in private practice since 2018. I completed the Master of Social Work Program and incorporate the wisdom from this experience into my counselling practice.

As a therapist, I believe that you are the expert on you and my role is to guide and support you. Together, we will co-create what therapy looks like for you. I believe tools to help us cope and heal are everywhere- nature, laughter, intuition, moving our body, journaling, etc.- and so I pull from all of these during sessions. Since we naturally tend to focus on our challenges, I make it a priority to highlight your strengths, opportunities, and growth.

I am a proud member of the Gabriel Dumont Métis Local #11. Some things that bring me the greatest joy are my children, martial arts, writing, and a good belly laugh. I am grateful to walk alongside others as they tune into their own guidance and grow through life’s many transitions.
